Importance of Bodywork in Holistic Healing
Creating truly holistic healing begins with creating or re-establishing a good relationship with our bodies. We can’t constantly be at war with our bodies if we want to heal from past wounds, dis-eases, or pain. The importance of bodywork in creating this relationship is indispensable. Bodywork can be various techniques including massage, somatic practices, mindfulness, and self-care. The most important piece is that you focus on connecting with what your body is saying, instead of numbing out or turning away.
When we consider healing, we often think of it in terms of medication, surgery, supplements, advice from experts - essentially, external interventions. However, bodywork brings the focus back to the body itself, encouraging us to listen to our bodies, understand its signals, and work with it, rather than against it. This is a cornerstone of holistic healing - the belief that our bodies have innate wisdom and healing capabilities that we can tap into.
Body, Mind, and Spirit Connection
Another key aspect of holistic healing is the understanding of the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. These three elements are seen as a triad that works together, influencing and being influenced by each other. In other words, our physical health is not just a matter of our physical bodies, but is also deeply connected to our mental and spiritual well-being.
For instance, chronic stress (a mental state) manifests as physical symptoms like headaches or stomach problems. Similarly, a physical ailment could lead to feelings of depression or anxiety. The spirit here refers to our highest self, our essence, which also plays a role in our overall health and well-being. A sense of purpose, meaningful relationships, and a connection to something larger than ourselves - these are all spiritual elements that can contribute to our health and wellness.
Using the Body as a Guide for Healing
Given the intimate connection between the body, mind, and spirit, we can use our body as a guide in the healing process. This involves tuning into our bodies, and paying attention to its signals and cues. Our bodies can tell us when something is off balance, when we need rest, when we need nourishment, and so on. By listening to these signals, we can make necessary changes and adjustments, and in doing so, facilitate healing. When we can hear the whispers of a problem, our body doesn’t need to shout at us anymore to get our attention. When we speak our body’s language and allow for quiet connection to be made we can make subtle shifts that have large and lasting impacts.
Using the body as a guide is about being an active participant in the healing process, working in conjunction with practitioners, and taking responsibility for our own health and well-being. This approach empowers us to take charge of our health, to make informed decisions, and to feel more in control. And this, in itself, is a powerful form of healing.
Somatic RE-Integration
Somatic Re-Integration Sessions begin to help us tap back into our body and release “sticky” emotions and tension patterns in our system guided by principles of somatics, neuromuscular, guided imagery, and breathwork. In our session, we’ll bring focus into areas that are consistently holding tension and work to recreate a connection to those often dissociated and painful part/s. In these sessions, we work WITH the body and not against it. Helping create a supportive relationship with you in the driver’s seat and your body navigating us through. In these sessions, we’ll create a safe space to explore pain and distressing emotions and help untangle subconscious holding patterns from your system.
